Just finished a great few days with Capt Shadle on the Hooptie Deaux. Caught this Oystercatcher near Tampa, taking a bath. Gitzo tripod/Wimberly head, Canon 1Ds Mk III, 600mm Canon D lens IS, f/4.0, 1/2000, ISO 400, eval metering, manual, evening light; color balance, sharpening, crop, done in Lightroom 2.0. C and C welcome.
It's always fun to watchand photograph bathing birds, and this guy looks like it was no exception. Seems like its have fun! I like the water action, and the flared tail feathers. Light angle was not optimal (coming from the right) and created some shadows in the neck and chest area. At least the head is angled enough to have had some light hit the eye. Composition-wise I would crop a good portion out from the bottom as all that extra space there does not add anything to the image.
Dan, Cute pose and the water drops add some interest. Nice details and I agree the light angle wasn't the best but you did well getting the head and face lit. I may have put the OC lower in the frame if it were mine. The water color is pleasing.
Hi Dan, the droplets around the head really adds interest here, together with the drool of water from the bill. I agree with Daniel that croppping off the bottom can only improve the comp.
