Hi Muriel Very nice exposure, were panning well to render sharp, good PS work and visible eyes These guys tend to turn when diving
Sure would have liked if you made the image a little sooner Would have placed the bird above the wave in cleaner water and given more room to move into Generally you want more room up front in the direction of movement In this case even more because of the action Also getting the wings in the full out position would have been preferable Only way is taking many and the choosing the one I like it a lot !!!
Hi Muriel,
Nice try but I think this one falls under the heading of "shoulda, coulda, woulda, outghta". There are just too many little things out of sync. The exposure looks good but it's hard to tell when the bird is this small.
First, I think you "shoulda" caught him higher in the frame so he's not crowding the lower left corner. It looks like he's going to crash out of the frame. Were you in Burst Mode?
Next, you "coulda" zoomed in closer. I don't know what lens you had but at 250mm, you probably had an extra 50mm-150mm. There's a whole lot of empty space and lost detail.
Third, I "woulda" repositioned myself relative to the bird so that I'm level or below the bird. That's easier said than done but this angle makes the bird's head disappear. Finally, on to "oughta".
You "oughta" keep in mind that not every situation is right for a photo. Sometimes, just put the camera down and enjoy the moment. I hope you don't think I'm being harsh.
You are very close, a second earlier and you would have had him in a higher position in the frame and maybe with a better background. Not easy to time that but worth trying it over and over and you will get it.

That is a big problem with me, I try to get a picture from every situation, whether appropriate for my equipment or not. I am slowly learning restraint and more objective critiquing before shooting, from this list. but it is soooo difficult. lol
