I've been picking out photos taken recently to experiment with different filters and effects so I guess you are all guinea pigs. :)
This kingfisher appeared out of the blue and my shutter speed was a bit slow for the wings so I've tried to make a more interesting picture out of it by using Nik Silver filter, reducing the opacity to 70% then overlaying it with film grain in CS3.

Not too sure about the final result but I'm having fun with the experimentation and learning along the way. Thanks for taking time to look at it.

The effect is quite interesting and I like it much better than the original. My only problem with the image is the lack of light on the face that was caused by a poor head angle in the original capture. Lightening the black mask would help but there is no substitute for a good head angle even when we are working out of the box :)

Hilary, It almost looks like a bleach bypass filter was used. The results are very nice. I agree that the eye could be lightened more to make it more visible. I might tone down the light area of the BG just a touch. Fantastic pose and I like your composition choice.:)

Thank you Arthur & Denise, I agree with you both about the head. Sometimes I just hope that somehow when I do my PP it will all be fixed. :)

Hi Hilary, Very nice pose, comp, and processing. I love the wing blur. Artie and Denise hit the nail on the head with their critique.
