    Default Feeding Turnstone

Taken in April early in the morning where the weather is so mixed, sunshine, cloud, warm, rain, freezing cold...

When the light is right the water on this small lagoon, or pool acts like a mirror, offering some good opportunities IMHO. I guess these birds are so use to people, as they literally come right up to you and investigate and then scurry off in search of food.

Hi Steve, I like the light and warm colours in this, and you have captured an excellent reflection. Overall, nice and sharp too. Comp wise, I would maybe take a tad off the right, and a little off the left too. If this was mine, I would maybe blend the green part of the BG on top, into the darker area.

Great shot! A nice place and setting for a turnstone :) Composition is fine for me, and I like that darker part of the bg above the bird. The bird does get a little 'lost' amongst the stones though. Colours and sharpness are excellent.

    Steve:

Lovely colors here, reflection, like the sky blues in the water..

Tobias hit the main point for me. The bird does tend to blend into the stones. If not for the reflection, it would be a much weaker image.

I suspect it wasn't an option, but a lower shooting angle might have placed more of the bird above the rock line. The downside of course, is that it would also change the reflection.

I agree with Stuart about the upper dark area. I like it for color/balance, but would smooth the transition from water to shore just a bit.

    Cheers

    Randy

I love the reflection and the EXP and sharpness are excellent. Tobias was close to hitting the nail on the head: the huge problem here is that the bird's head is lost in the rocks. You needed to get low enough to place the bird's head (and upper half at least) against the green water. And it looks as if that might have been possible.

Steve, This is a very appealing image. I love the reflection and beautiful BG colors. Agree w/ head comments. It looks like it needs a slight rotation also. :)

I really like this image, the light, pose and location are perfect .. the only thing I'm unsure of is the dark band at the top of the image.

Beautiful light and tack sharp image. Like the reflection and the low angle.
