I made this image today. I cropped it, sharpened it & adjusted it in curves. It was a mostly cloudy day with spitting snow & occasional sun breaks.

Good find, light and I like raised crest. I wish the bird were angled toward you and there were more fine details. Is it a heavy crop?

Yes, it is a heavy crop. There was a flock of about 200 birds on the lake & I was having trouble isolating single birds for images.

You did a good job with the color and contrast but as Axel said, image quality is poor. When the bird is angling away from you you need to try to depress the shutter button when the bird's head is parallel to the back of the camera.

Andrew, I like the raised crest too. The large crop affected the image quality. I do wish the Grebe was turned toward you more. I always seem to have trouble isolating birds when they are in a large group-it's best to pick one that is close to you and stay with it.:)

    Thanks Art.

Denise, I like your suggestion of picking one bird & following it with the camera. I will try that next time.
