I never would have guessed that you used flash, well done. The background is great, I only wish the bird was turned more toward you or appeared more dynamic. Also, maybe remove the little stick on the left?

    Hi Willem,

I like this shot - it is nice and sharp and the detail is very good - if anything perhaps a little heavy on the sharpening. The colours of the limosa against the rich green background are very pleasing to me.

In terms of composition, I think the image is too tight top and bottom, so if you have cropped the image, maybe you could add some back in. I think I saw a while back that Robert O'Toole was suggesting that the subject should fill about 60% of the height of the image - you are at about 95%!!

    Nice to see your image,

    G.

Nice bg, and use of flash, I wish for a bit more of a head turn toward the camera, and more room top and bottom.

Thanks for the reaction so far people.

@ Gerald : the picture was taken at 700 mm so there was no more room left :) Sorry

@ Bryan same comment for you as write above.

What I really want too now is is the lighting good as it is now?

The subject looks great, but I wish it had turned its head towards you a few degrees more. I realize this is full frame, but I find there is not enough perch showing at bottom. I'd remove the faint line directly above the bill (rain drop?). Nice, rich colours...

I like the angle, sharpness and BG. Would it have been possible to move to your left and to back up a little? The whites look a bit greenish, maybe because of all the grass around it?

HI Willem, The lighting looks good on the subject and the flash at -3 would have only lighten the shadow a bit and added the catchlight to the eye.

Nice bird with great colors and BG....good use of flash. HA isn't ideal, I find it little tight at the bottom and I'd remove the grass on the left side of the perch.
    TFS.
