Shot this last autumn at the Black River in Chester,NJ. Nice place to walk around and get angles on the river.

Nikon D300,18-85mm,F13,1/4 sec,iso 400,0 comp, tripod mtd. Note: I try to have my SS at 1/4 sec when shooting flowing water. However white water is not that prevalent in the image.
You bet, works great for me.
Love the perspective, the "s" curve river filling foreground and vanishing away. With some nice rocks for interest that also make the water flow interesting. The trees are gorgeous. So is the water, near foregorund I love how it is just blurry enough to suggest movement. Sharp, frozen water would not show that. And nice change from the super cloudy fuzzy looking water. 1/4 sec, will remember that. Sorry, but I can find -no- negatives about it :) This could easily make a beautiful wall size mural.

Hi Tom, Thanks for the comment. As a guideline(not a rule) I like to show some detail in flowing water. No real right or wrong but my personal taste...
It is a lovely shot. Lots of fall colours and they are nicely picked up in the water as well.
Softly flowing water adds to the nice quiet and cool fall day feeling to the photo.
