    Default Help with MA

I bought LensAllign and spent hours to try to MA my lenses. Watching the LA video it seemed a pretty straightforward operation, however, I am facing few recurring problems. First, if I try to MA the lenses at the recommended distance the target gets too small in the frame and it is difficult to evaluate the focus. My main problem is that I find extremely difficult to evaluate shifts in focus. By increasing or decreasing MA I don't really notice shifts in focus or the shifts are inconsistent with the MA. I reviewed all the instructions and I can't find where I am doing something wrong...Would it be possible that I have a defective MA on my camera?

    Thanks, Giulio

Having not used LensAlign, I cannot make a recommendation.

I use the targets in Artie's Canon camera guides and that method. Works w/o a hitch.

I started a thread on Nikon Cafe as I have the same problem. Some people give me advise that works for them while some, like us, seem to have a lot of problems.
I have been trying a flat target, either one from Thom Hogan or one I bought for $20. I place my camera and lens on a solid table which is more secure than any tripod. I shoot at 1/3200 with a cable release and mirror lockup. I have single point af selected. I shoot wide open.
Today I borrowed a lensalign pro. I thought the ruler would help to show front and back focus. While still not secure with my results, I find the ruler did not help. I am looking at the flat part of the gizmo to try to tell which setting would be best.

I have used the following on both my 7D and 1D MK4 with excellent results. It's also free.

The artical speaks about the 1DMK3 but it is the same for all.
