This is one of the 1st images I have taken with my latest piece of gear - a gimbal head (Jobu Jr.2 with sidearm), mounted on a Feisol Traveller tripod, at Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia recently.

    NIKON D300 , 300 f/4 AF-S +1.7TC
    Focal Length: 500.0mm (35mm equivalent: 750mm)
    Focus Distance: 11.9m
    Aperture: f/6.7
    Exposure Time: 0.0013 s (1/800)
    ISO equiv: 500
    Exposure Bias: +0.33 EV
    Metering Mode: Matrix
    Exposure: aperture priority (semi-auto)
    White Balance: Auto
    Flash Fired: No
    Color Space: sRGB

I cloned out some oof branches on the left, to leave a cleaner bg. I realize the whites are a bit hot, but they're not actually blown, when checking the values.

Love the BG and pose, Richard. The whites are lacking detail. Image looks sharp but there is a lot of pixelation/jpg artifact especially noticable in the shiny blue feathers which is detracting from an otherwise good image. Not sure if this relates to a big crop or maybe just the jpg quality setting in saving for web.

    Richard:

Good points by Tony, as expected. The whites may measure ok, but they do look blown, so would be tempted to do some more recovery.
The colors are vivid, the perch is excellent, BG colorful and simple.

Very nice overall. Would reconvert and or run recovery on the whites, but this image has lots of potential!
    Cheers

    Richard,

Lot's to like here, sections of whites do look blown, check out "How To Repository", there are threads on recovering whites. When lights are present set EV to protect them first IMO, maybe -1/3,..-2/3 would have been easier on the highlights?

Like the composition and you gave him room in the frame, many are too tight - TFS.
