    Default CS5 & PLUG INS

I got my CS 5 but have not installed it yet. Do you have to reinstall all the plug ins once CS 5 is installed like Nik and noise reduction?

Mike, mine will arrive tomorrow. IN previous versions, all you had to do was taking the plugins from the old folder to the new plugin folder. I guess it will be the same in this case.

I'll be interested to know if copying the plugin folder works. With Nik, One-One, Pixel Genius etc that need installing and activation I suspect they will need to deactivated from the old PS installation and reinstalled and reactivated. 64 bit version for Mac will need updates of the plugins too I think.

I reinstalled then, because I wanted to have them in my copy of CS3 also.

I'm just wondering then if I should keep CS 4 on my system for now until all the updates are available. I swear by the plug ins. Of course I still have CS 2 on my system due to some plug ins I still use that I did not want to upgrade.....

    something will have to give...

You will have to run CS5 in 32-bit mode to be able to run Nik Software. They haven't updated Viveza yet and on their website it says that it will be available as 64-bit plugin sometime 'mid-year'. Check also this thread: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=62682

Photokit Sharpener by PixelGenius also requires that you run CS5 in 32 bit mode on the Mac. They are planning a paid upgrade in the near future. I can't understand why these plug-in companies don't have something ready at product launch!

Topaz, on the other hand, has their plug-ins in 64 bit mode totally ready for the 64 bit version of the Photoshop. I think Topaz is a small company, too. I wonder what Nik's been doing.

Since I've never run in 64bit, My intel Mac Pro I purchased in 2007 and has the Dual-Core wx2.66 Intel Xeon. Will this run in 64 bit?

They must have been napping, I'm surprised, too, that the updated plugins are not available yet.

CS5 will run in 64-bit mode if you have Snow Leopard (10.6.3) installed.

I left CS4 on my computer, work in CS5 in 64-bit mode and if I want to use Viveza, I save the TIFF file and open it in CS4 before switching back to CS5. It's not too bad as a workaround.

No need for CS4 Axel, if you have 64bit CS5 you have 32bit CS5 also, just save the TIFF and process in 32bit CS5, which is what I do.;)
I'm sure you're aware of that and wondered why you would still need CS4?

I know but I find it easier this way. CS5 can use only 2.1GB RAM in 32-bit mode and CS4 can use 3GB. This way I let CS5 run in 64-bit mode all the time.

I only notice the difference if I run out of memory.

Thanks Axel ... btw I moved all the plug ins from CS4 to CS5 so my only option is shutting down and re starting if I want to go to 64 bit ... hope they will be available soon !!!

If you use Imagenomic (Noiseware) plug-ins, this is from their site:

Please be advised that our Photoshop Plug-ins work in Photoshop CS5, but the current versions of
installers do not detect CS5 yet. In order to install the Plug-ins in CS5, please follow these steps:

If you have already installed an Imagenomic plug-in on your computer, and want to add them to
another host program, please go to Start menu > Programs > Imagenomic > Noiseware Plug-in,
and click on the "Noiseware Plug-in Hosts Setup" (replace with appropriate Plug-in name here).
Otherwise, just run the installer. Then you will be able to add or remove host programs - just add
CS5. You will need to specify CS5 as host program manually during host selection, and point the
installer to CS5 plug-ins folder. Please make sure not to change the plug-in installation path - you
should add a host program manually and specify the plug-ins path. Please see the installation
    instructions, step 3.

On a 32 bit system, Photoshop CS5 is always a 32 bit host, and the Plug-ins folder is typically
    C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS5Plug-ins
On a 64 bit Vista and Windows 7, you can install the plug-ins in both 64 bit and 32 bit hosts. The
    Plug-ins folder for 64 bit CS5 on 64 bit Vista/Windows 7 is C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Photoshop
    CS5Plug-ins . For 32 bit edition of CS5 on 64 bit Vista/Windows 7, the plug-ins folder is C:Program
    Files (x86)AdobeAdobe Photoshop CS5Plug-ins.

Glad to hear that. I'm looking forward to using CS5. Just received it yesterday, but I've got a new computer coming from Dell next week, so I'll wait so I can run the 64-bit version. I have 2GB of RAM now, and I often max that out on large images. The new box will have 8GB and a faster processor. :D
