Wonderful location and a beautiful desert morning. There were lots of birds, but I really enjoyed the antics of the thrashers. Love their intense eyes. I really like the cholla skeleton as a perch and looked for some all the way back from Arizona for my yard.

    Mack:

An interesting perch indeed. I wish the birds tail didn't merge with it.
Nice subtle use of fill flash.
Nice head angle. Good eye as mentioned.

I might consider a crop down of about 1/3 of the free space, and in from the left a bit as well. I do find the brighter spots/ uneven nature of the background a bit distracting because of the contrast with the bird.

Hope to see more from this series.

    Cheers

    Randy

Way cool perch! Glad you got to find some for your yard. I just find the bright broken-off part in front of your subject a bit distracting - perhaps a bit of burning or creative cloning could take some of the attetion off of that area. I'd definitely crop some off the top and left to improve the comp. Awesome pose, great looking eye, and I'm OK with the BG (although I see what Randy means...)

Agree that the cropping will make a difference in this shot. Nice catch.
