I just purchased the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for my Rebel, it's not the IS version. Does anyone know if I can use the Canon EF 1.4X II Extender with this lens?
thank you,

Indeed you can. It works extremely well with the 70-200s that Canon makes. I have the IS version of the lens which is as far as I can see as sharp as a prime at all focal lengths, and I see no degradation with the tc other than a slight, and manageable amount of chromatic aberration at the edges.
Thank you all for the information about this lens. Even though it's not an IS I have read that it is a very sharp lens and that I will from my first use on be quite spoiled for any other kind of glass. Dinna tell my hubby that. I think since most of my birding shots are in my own rather small yard that it will be long enough for most situations. I am so looking forward to Friday.

I have the Canon 70-200 F4 L, non-IS, and I use it with the Canon 1.4X Extender quite often. They work very well together, like a perfectly matched pair.
Thanks Joe,
I am sure I will enjoy this lens. I have a Tamron 1.4 extender that was used with a Tamron 70-300mm that I had before I bought the Canon 70-300mm. Wonder if it would work on the 70-200.I sold the Tamron lens but haven't sold the extender yet. Wouldn't want to take a chance on damaging the lens tho, so maybe not.
