    Default Heron Scratch

Hi all, new to this site. This is a photo I have taken today with a Nikon D300s and a Sigma 80-400mm OS 4.5/5.6 attached. This is taken at 400mm and 5.6 with my ISO at 800 and 1/800 shutter.

    Thanks for looking.

    Cory:

A big welcome to BPN, a great place to learn.

Your bird is well exposed, soft light, nice angle in the frame, I like the composition (placement of bird in frame)

Generally would prefer a more natural perch when possible.

Thanks for sharing, and look forward to more.

    Cheers

    Randy

Hi Cory, welcome to BPN!! I too prefer natural perches when possible, but this one is not too bad and nicely weathered. I love how the foot is gripping it. Neat pose, and good comp and BG. Although properly focussed the fine detail seems lacking a bit as posted...if you applied NR be sure to do so on the BG only as this *could* be the cause.

Hoping to see more form you! :)

Hi Cory Big Warm Welcome !!!

Lots to like in this image, pose, open beak, bg and overall feel !!! Would desaturate the green just a bit and can increase contrast (slight) in the bird for more feather detail I like it a lot !!! Looking forward to the next !!!
