Haven't been in wildlife for a while....still working on Tanzania images. This was photographed as we headed back to our tent site in the Serengeti on my Tanzania tour..sun was set...came across this buck emerging from the shadows. I did burn the edges a bit more to emphasize the darkeness and make him stand out more.
Canon 1D Mark lll with the Sigma 300-800mm lens @687mm for 1/1000 sec. at f5.6 and ISO 1250 (it was pretty dark and we were photographing BIF minutes earlier....hence the speed).....may have sacrificed some SS for a lower ISO....but ran Noise Ninja on the BG.

    Hi Roman

IMHO I think you might like to revisit some of the masking around the horns, head and part of the body of the 'buck'. There are some ghostings/halos around the horns where it sits against the BG. The body colour of the animal (to light) juxtapose to the ambience of the setting really throws the animal out too much and appears not natural even if it has just emerged from the shadows. Also, not sure if any NR was applied over the body, but if it has, then it's smoothed out the skin, leaving no imperfections, blemishes hairs, marks etc that would be normally visible.

Sorry Roman, but as it stands at present it really isn't working for me.

Not a problem Steve! That's why I posted it here. I was worried I went to far! Fortunately......I saved a version from a bunch of steps earlier! I'm not sure onn the NR though.:(

Lets see how the reposts looks Roman, but certainly from my perspective it just looks to 'polished' for a better phrase. however, I could be totally wrong. ;) What apps did you use to create this, as this might highlight something?

    Hey Steve,
You are not wrong.....too polished is a good word! Part of me liked the painterely/surreal look....but the naturalist in me felt this went too OOTB! I just used a bunch of levels layers and then dodging and burning.....didn't stop! I will try to post the more natural one tomorrow if I have time!

    Hey Roman,
Look of the fur mentioned but for the presented image I'd widen the lighter area around the animal a little more. Kind of a cool look for me.

    Hi Roman,
This looks like a painting, as the body has been smoothed out. I guess you uploaded one with NR on the body. I like the angle. Look forward to the repost.

    Cheers,
