Default My 40D display is acting erratic!

My Canon 40Ds screen on the top of the body and info strip on the bottom of the viewfinder is displaying almost random lines, symbols and parts of numbers. The camera works fine, I can control everything (aperture, ISO, shutter speed, etc...) and the main LCD screen works fine and the menu works fine.

So whats up, I tried reloading the firmware 1.1.1 but that did not work. I am also getting a err 06 sensor cleaning malfunction warning that was supposed to be fixed in the firmware 1.1.1 update.

It fixed itself for a few minuts and then the screen stopped working correctly again.

So in summery I can control everything I just cant see what I'm doing.

    Help would be much appreciated.

Well as you know a camera is basically a small computer and this one has issues. I will ask Roger Clark to weigh in on this. Assume you are out of factory warranty and hoping you have an Extended Plan.

Do you know what caused the change?

    Caleb,

It sounds like an electrical problem and unless you are an electronics tech, you'll probably need to send it to Canon for repair.

I do have an extended plan and I think what could have caused the problem was the Best Buy techs I took my 40D to for a check up.

Best Buy is usually good at returns and fixes. Funny, I purchased my 40D there as well in 2008 and bought the Extended Service plan. They sent it off for a few weeks (error 99 issues) and it worked fine after that. I have since sold it to finance my MKIV.

Good luck, let me know how things go.
