I am working on reflections in drips and did this one the other day with Roman. Was a ton of work...was not originally thrilled with this one but looking again today its sort of growing on me. All done in camera. Opinions appreciated...

Oh my! I think it is wonderful. With the flower that is in the reflection also showing in the photo makes it very special. I have yet to get one of these. I have tried many times, but never come away with a sharp image in the reflection. All I have are lots of excuses - wind, water drops not holding, too narrow DOF, etc. I think I will get some flowers from the grocery store and set this up in my house with tripod, clamps, glycerine water drops and see if I can't finally get one... one of these days.

    Great job!

Wow... that is really excellent, Nick. Great colors and excellent sharpness. TFS.

Nick, This is something different. I like the reflection in the drop. Could you tell us a little more about how you did this. What was your exif? I know that will help some that want to try it. You gave me a great idea. I will try to work on it this week.:)

We had the leaf in the front and used glycerin to make a drop (just a little frustrating!). The flower was a few inches behind the leaf, we moved the rear flower around until we had a good refection. The camera was tripod mounted. Used a 100mm macro lens with three stacked extension tubes and a ring flash (+1/3). ISO 400, SS 1/160, f/20. This was after a lot of experiments. Have to do a lot more to perfect this one. I almost forgot it is critical to focus directly on the flower in the drip.

    Nice image and application, Nick.

Only comment is it would be nice to have the back flower a little more in or out of focus. I would opt for a softer image. Maybe a softening layer would help. It seems to be on a distracting level for me. But ... very nice and your image ... Your vision.

Thanks Denise. My teaching schedule is ending, maybe a day at Roman's studio (I mean his dining room) with the three of us could lessen the learning curve. I have a million ideas on this one!

Thanks Mark, I wanted that rear flower completely out of focus. I think short of Photoshop it would be very difficult if not impossible to keep both in focus. Maybe different lenses...

I would lean toward having it more out of focus as well. PS may be the answer??? Just a comment, as it was somewhat bothering to me and therefore took away just a little from your great image. But still nice. ;)

    Hi Nick,
LOVE that reflection, but I too would like to have had the rear flower more out of focus. What are these Federation wins of which Denise speaks? Congrats anyway :)
