There is just something so captivating about seeing masses of water forcing its way through the Orange River gorge in the arid landscape of the Northern Cape of South Africa.

Hi Elmar, This image is very familiar. Did you post it before?
To bring out the detail more I ran a curves adj and and applied S/H....

Thanks Dave, I posted an earlier version where the flow was much stronger. Here is the link to that post http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=57369

Please excuse my ignorance, but I am not too good with the acronyms - what is S/H?

Thanks Dave, gave it a bit of a make-over myself. Does it work?

Hi Elmar, Yes, there is more contrast within the image. It appears a bit more saturated but I feel this is a matter of taste with no true right or wrong since it doesn't seem over done...

was this with the recent flood Elmar? love that place, a landscaper's dream.
I like what Dave has done and even like your repost. Good perspective from the lookout point with the best view of the entire falls and background.

    Hi Elmar,
Both re-posts work as far as color and as far as color tone.....I may prefer your warmer tones....but as Dave said....personal taste. Compositionally I like the way you have the bowl on a diagonal and the way the rocks frame it. Just the right amount of sky to keep it balanced. Very nicely done!

Thanks Harshad, Morkel and Roman. Always nice when the experts leave some comments.

Morkel, yes this was during the Feb 2010 floods. In this picture the flow was already much lower than its peak, but still a wonderful sight.

    Elmar,

I too like this for the reasons mentioned. When I see rocks with detail I think Local Contrast Enhancement. BG copy with USM at 50/20/0 will make the rocks pop.

Thanks Bob and Dennis for leaving your comments. Dennis, Augrabies is a great place to visit, especially when the flood waters arrive.
