Here is an image of just the little black cub. I know some are not fans of square crops, I don't mind them and it was the most appealing choice in this case.

Hi Todd, really liked the pose with that upturned claw and paw, and obviously a super-cute subject too, well done. If anything perhaps darken the bright tree trunk directly behind and above the cubs head a tiny bit?

    Hi Todd,
Love the fellow. Light seems to be pretty low. A narrow aperture would have been nice, but am not sure whether you could have increased the ISO further.

    Cheers,

Hi Todd, the crop works fine, and cute little guy. He seems a bit stressed, was he stuck?

Little indeed... I'm not an expert in Black Bears but this cub must be really young. Was the mother around?
I like the pine needles framing the subject, and the tension in its expression and posture.

Thanks for the comments guys. Stuart, the cub was not stressed at all but was playing with it's brother(cinnamon from earlier post). Ignacio, yes the cub was young, this image was made in May and yes mom was very near, as was the other cub(also in tree).

Very cute cub, Todd. But the softness that Morkel refers to is probably because of motion blur. I know the ISO was already high and you may not have been able to go further. However, have you considered lowering the AV to 0 or even -1/3? You could have then got the shutter speed you needed to freeze this.
