    Default Grevy's Zebra

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy holds one of the largest populations of the endangered Grevy's Zebra and it is an excellent place to photograph them. I photographed this old boy in 2008 and have used a Niksilver filter to give it an old 'colonial' feel.

Hi Hilary, just love your conversion, and your comp works well too. Where is Lewa?

Thanks Stuart. Lewa is on the Laikipia Plateau just North of Mt Kenya. It sits on the plateau just before it falls away to Samburu National Reserve. It has a vibrant rhino breeding programme (both species) and also has a large population of some of the rarer northern Kenyan species such as the Grevy's, Reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx amongst others. Fenced on the side closest to the main populations near Mt Kenya it has an open side to allow migration patterns for elephants to be maintained. There is just recently an underground corridor allowing access to elephant from the Laikipia Plateau to Mt Kenya so that they can cross the busy road north. The conservation programme is fantastic and involves a huge area outside the conservancy incorporating the nearby Samburu tribes amongst others. Do I sound like I love? You bet!! Thanks for asking. :D

Oh, and thanks for the positive comments on the image, much appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback Hilary. Can you believe it, we used to live in Kenya when we were little, very close to Lake Nakuru. What I would do to just visit the area again.

Interesting effect Hilary and would agree that the crop is spot on. Might suggest also posting in OOTB too, might get a different/alternative feedback?

Stuart you will know then the 'great' road from Nairobi to Lake Nakuru then :D the one will large pot holes no surface and no lanes for traffic, just one, however as I was leaving a few years ago they were building a new tarmac one, nice :)

Very nice conversion. Comp looks great. Could it take a bit more sharpening? TFS

Very nice effect, sort of melancholic. Beautifully caught expression. I think more sharpening would detract from the "colonial" feel.

Nice crop, nice effect. Like the tone, not pure B&W.
Not sure about more sharpening, would it retain the "old colonial" feel?
FWIW, don't believe image is sRGB profile.
