Another fruitful kayak adventure along North Carolina's Crystal Coast... a Ruddy Turnstone. 40D, Bigma @ 500mm, iso 800, f/13.0, 1/800. Post includes selective sharpening on the bird, a little dodging on the catchlight, noise reduction on the background and a curves adjustment.

Nice looking bird Bob !!! I like the exposure holding the whites .. good light on the bird, I like the raised foot and implied motion. Would give more room, seems a bit tight in frame. Can also work on the bright spots by the tail and run a smooth brush over the bg !!! Doing well from the boat and can't think of a better lens to take !!!!

Nice exposure getting the blacks and the whites under control; nice dynamic pose. Agree it is a little tight in the frame.

Repost with enlarged canvas and white reflections near tail removed. That's all the image I have top and right... a little remain left and bottom.

Really nice, Bob. I like the low angle, walking pose and colors. The kayak shooting is working well for you, I wish I wasn't chicken about taking my camera in a small boat.

Have you ever paddled a recreational style kayak, Peter? If not you might be surprised at how stable they actually are. It's not unusual for kayak and/or outdoors shops to run "demo days" where you can try various boats for free. Might be worth giving one a spin. There is, of course, always some risk to the camera when out in the 'yak. But that's mostly limited to when it's in your hands and you're shooting. The rest of the time the gear lives nice and safe in a sealed dry bag.
