Looks great to me! The branches pine needles don't get in the way for the most part (except for the foot and tail) and provide a good idea of the habitat, while the background is still blurred out.
Can you give a little more info about the location? I looked up Gary Carter's Bird Ranch expecting maybe to find a website, didn't have any luck.
Great habitat shot...really like the HA and eye contact..not sure about the reds on the male this time of year..would rather have them muted as is than blown out. I would have cropped more on the right and opened up the left side....for me the pine cone really adds a lot ....nice BG....
