    Your plover is sharp, well exposed with just a bit of hot whites, not objectionable. The background is busy, and if the IQ will allow, I would consider a crop to eliminate the bright red on left, and the tall bright stem on right.
    Really attractive bird with the eye ring.

    Really cute bird, I like the yellow eye ring. I also like the "floor" it is standing on with the moss and bits of vegetation. BG is rather distracting though with many unflattering OOF elements. Also notice that the face/neck/chest are not lit as well as the rest of this guy...either some flash to fill-in the shade, or placing yourself for a better light angle would have been advantageous. Had the bird been angled more towards us that would have worked to your advantage too.

    Exposure and sharpness look good. I like the angle of the photo and the ground covering. I would clone out the out of focus vegetation sticking up from the plover's head. I agree the background is a little too busy. I also would like the head to be angled a little more towards the camera.
