Another interesting bird from Costa Rica; this Boat-billed Heron was back under some low-hanging vines and vegetation next to a pond and seemed to pose for me for a few minutes. C&C encouraged and greatly appreciated.

Wow. I can never get this guy out in the open. It is always hidden among the mangrove.

Like the pose, detail and nice BG. I wish there was a bit more DOF. 1/25 exposure time and it is still sharp. Nice work, Katie.

Neat bird, and sharpeness looks great for such low SS. With the eyes perfectly sharp I am OK with the DOF. Warming up the colour temp a bit could be good as I feel the image a bit bluish overall.

That's as good a look at a Boat-Billed Heron as I've ever gotten Katie. You made the most of the opportunity, with good sharpness and great eye contact. I love their big eyes!

Hi Katie, Nicely captured! Nice and sharp where it counts with a clean background of complimentary color. I love the eye contact. I congratulate you on your technique. To be able to get this quality at 1/25 of a sec. is impressive. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, all; glad you enjoyed him. This species was at the top of my list for this year's trip since I really messed-up my chance at it last year...I'm a happy camper.

Katie- what a thrill to see this bird. Ever since I was a kid this bird held a special place.

Your image really shows off the species beautifully. Agree withe prevous comment. The only thing I would add is that I think the right eye could be lightened a bit.

Katie: Really nice image of this guy. Wouldn't change a thing. You nailed the exposure and I like the composition very much. Fun trip and great traveling with you again.
