    Default Spitfire 434 @ Biggin Hill 2009

    Hey All,

Going to post a couple of my aviation photos for you to look at and give me a little C&C on.

First up a Spitfire Mk IX designated 434, Serving out of Duxford in middle England, she served in 1943-1945 in the RAF’s 222 Squadron and had 7 kills attributed to her. Here she is being flown by the Red Bull air race’s Nigel Lamb at Biggin Hill 2009.

This photo has featured in a couple of publications last year celebrating the spitfire’s 70 years in active service.

    Here is the pic

Would have been taken on my D100 with the old push pull 75-300 @ around 300, shutter I think would have been 1/320, having to go off memory as nearly a year old this pic now ;) ISO 200, center weighed metering, hand held, curves, sharpening in PS

    C&C welcomed as always

The moment and the panning is quite good. I would have like to see it stand out a bit more from the background, it now looks to be just as light and the camouflage works too wel.

Hi Peter Having a sensory overload :) Only way to make it better is the bg but one sweet image !! That squadron took a beating in the Battle of Britain and I think they converted to Tempest? at the end of the War !! Sure wish you could post more :)

Alas no :p this was when my D2h's shutter box broke and i was reduced to my backup D100, was a whole airshow with a D100 at 3fps...was torture lol

Hi Wijnands, I seem to remember the photo editor for the magazine did edit the sky with a blue filter, I will try and get a copy of the published image. Was bit of a grey day when i took that but i was quite pleased with it :D

    Hi Alfred,

I am glad that you like the pic :D

I will post another in 48 hours ;)

when i get paid i will join the BPN anyway :) very worthwhile site here and love it to bits :)

They did indeed convert to the tempest, this spitfire was retired in 1945 and sold on to private hands after the war, its a beautiful machine. Sounds even better ;)

Hi Peter, beautiful example of a very famous plane. You froze the plane nicely just wish it was up higher and had no conflict with the buildings....

Peter, prefer this one over the original. Has less distractions. I might do 2 things. Give it some CCW rotation and crop out most of the white sky. Shooting at an air show looks like quite a challenge. Need to try that....

    Hi Harold,

Glad that you like the photos! I have some others that i will post up as and when i can, 48 hour limit...lol

Dave, i agree I think the 2nd photo is a better capture, that is an un-edited pic that i just happen to have on my space, it could do with some work :p

Hi William, Thank you for that, i posted them from work so i couldnt get to the exif data :D
