Mute Swan, Jamaica Bay NWR, Long Island NY

When I look at this image the swans neck looks like a big question mark.:p

This image was made at my favorite spot, Jamaica Bay NWR here on Long Island in late August 2007. If you catch the light right at Jamaica Bay you can make anything look pretty good except of course the goose poop you are crawling in. Just a simple swan in early morning light.

Photoshop: Used a light hit of Noise Ninja, very slight crop and levels..

    Nikon D2x, 500mm AF-S, x1.4, ISO 400, f6.3, 1/250, Skimmer Ground Pod, Wimberley Head II.

I really like this George. I'm wondering if you could increase the brightness of the swan a little, but love everything about this photo.

I like the smooth water and the feathers floating.....very nicely done. Yeah, brighter might add some punch.

Beautiful! The curves in the neck are great as are the floating feathers in front.
I wouldn't lighten the whole swan, I think it would change the mood considerably, but I might lighten the face / eye selectively.

While a little brightening might help, I like the subtle moodiness of the image. Since the reflection isn't really adding anything to the image, you might try cropping some off the bottom and adding some to the top. Might give it a different (maybe better?) balance. Regardless of my preferences, this is really nice George.

I like this, the pose and the pov are wonderful, maybe a little brighter, but it was early morning.

Wow, George, so much intricate detail here , floating feathers, slight splash, reflection and bg, water drop. Love the feeling. (Talk about nit-picking, there is a dust spot ur corner. ) Really love this. How many months till August?

George, stunning photo of a very beautiful bird. I like the composition and the moody light...the floaty feathers and droplet are sweet little additions to an already incredible photograph. Only nits would be a couple of dark spots - one above the back curve of the neck and one towards the upper right corner. Superb image!

Beautiful, beautiful, George! I love it all--my only small nit is the brightness too.
