    Default Baltimore Oriole & Butterfly

    Baltimore Oriole

    Upper Texas Coast

    D3, 600, ISO 500, f10, 1/1000, -0.3 EV.

Due to great weather systems, we are in the middle of the best bird migration on the Texas coast since the 1980's. Lot's of birds and good light. This is one of the more common species being photographed at my drip right now,(Warbler images coming later ;-) but I thought the Butterfly added a little drama. Any dead bugs or butterflys that I find, are placed on the perches as on offering.

Perfect profile pose, nice light, and a nice perch. The butterfly (probably a Painted Lady) adds to it.

This is as good as it gets...
What I like the most is the use of f10. the butterfly and head to tail sharpness is outstanding.

Alan, love the exposure, sharpness and BG.
Do you always try to shoot f/10 around small bird like this? Also, did you use flash at all?

Wonderful as usual and the butterfly puts it over the top. Sometimes I wish I lived in TX. ;)

    Hey Troy,

No flash on this shot. F10 is needed to get the bill tip to tail in sharp focus. I had the shutter speed to do it. Thanks.

Looks to me like he was in your drip bath right before with the water drops sprinkled on him. Love the matching butterfly!
