    His back was pretty much in shadow so I went with a portrait. Wood Duck eyes have always been weird, but this one caught mid blink or something is kinda freaky.

    Hi Jim,nice looking bird with excellent colors and light.my only nit, i would crop a bit at the top!

    Jim, You caught the nictitating membrane at mid-blink - I didn't know it had a black edge in woodies. It certainly draws your attention to the eye. Very nice colors here. On my monitor the cheek feathers look a bit soft. I might try cropping the top and a little off the left.

    "nictitating membrane" now there's a mouthful. :D

    Thanks for the suggestions on the crop. I started with more on bottom less on top but it wasn't working. Some off the top leaving the bottom where it is is probably a good idea, but the image is already suffering from big crop disease ;)

    I've got better woody images, but the eye was unique in this one.
