    Default Longwood Gardens Tulips Blur

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Canon 5D
    100mm Macro lens
    1/4 sec. at f/32
    ISO 100
    HH
    Natural light
    Full Frame

Roman and I gave a Macro workshop at Longwood Gardens yesterday. I was showing the group how I do my blur images and showing them different camera movements and settings. This was done by following the flow of lines at the top of the tulips. Kinda zig-zag movement.
I knew as soon as I saw the back of my camera that I would love this one. I think I even called out Bingo! Hope you all do too.:)

Very nicely done. I would have hollered BINGO as well, Denise.

I'll be at Longwood tomorrow. Rain may keep me in the conservatory and right now I am thinking I may just take the 5D2 with the Lensbaby and all the accoutrements - macro filters, soft focus optic, fisheye optic. Force myself to look at things a little differently. We'll see if I feel the same way in the morning. :)

Thanks Ed, I appreciate the kind words. I was able to get some beautiful soft focus Cymbidium Orchids that I loved.

    Bingo it is :)
Love the vibrant colours and the textures. I too have done some flower blurs today - might pluck up the courage to post one or two...

    Hi Denise, lovely image.
I'm just starting to play around with blurs and multiple exposures. For those of us that can't take your workshop do to location could you maybe share a little of your technique. I'm new here so if you have already could you point me to it?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to posting in this section!!

Hi Mitchell, Thank you for your interest and welcome to OOTB. This forum is loaded with tips and tricks by all of our members that post here. Art Morris and I will be doing a Blur Guide that will be available shortly.

For this blur I was shooting with a 100mm Macro lens. I set my ISO to 100 then in manual mode I started at 1/4 sec. at f/32(checking my histogram for exoposure) I filled the frame with the flowers then
I focused on the center of the image w/ manual focus then I moved the camera mimicking the zig-zag curves of the top of the flower while depressing the shutter. I made several attempts before being happy with the results.:) Hope that helps.

Bingo is right! I love everything about this - the colors, the soft blur, the crop. It really is perfect.:)
