Default Cattle Egret with a Stick

Went back to the rookery again. Stood in the water for almost 2 hours as usual.
Saw this particular Cattle Egret flew back with a stick and was staring at me.
Original shot was in portrait mode, where there are sticks around and he/she was not standing on the tip of the stick, too busy. I decided to just crop in to focus on the upper body and stick.

Like to know if this shot is ok or should I have include more of the neck and part of the body?

Critiques and Comments are greatly appreciated!

Troy really like it! IMHO your crop has placed a lot of attention to the stick. Not a bad thing at all because of the stare at you. This type of image keeps the eye moving around the image and keeps attention to it. I like it as presented. Congrats!

I think this is a beautiful shot. I like the cropping because it focuses attention to the bird's expressive eyes, his raised crest, and the curving stick. LInda digennaro

Gary, thank you. I would remove 70% of the stick if it were just for a print, or for a competition that allows it.

Hi Troy, I really like your image. I would not clone-out the branch. The "C" it forms is a classical compositional element and IMO strengthens the image. The bird itself is wonderful: lots of detail in the plumage, and the eyes are sharp. Congrats!

I really like the details and color in the bird. He also has a very interesting expression but I really don't care for the stick as it seem to overpower the bird. If the stick were smaller it probably would work for me.

Bill, not a problem, it is just a personal preference.

Beautiful shot. Detail and color is great. I too find the stick overpowering Exposure right on
