Ed, It's blue and it's beautiful. Have you tried to get the whites of the boats a bit whiter? I like the composition and the subtle effect of the processing.

Good morning, Denise. Maybe I've been hanging around here for too long because as looked at this image, I just KNEW that question was going to come up. :)

The short answer is NO. But here's why. I am sure you have already picked all this up but I will still lay out my thinking.

    1) The sun is very low in the sky (a few minutes after sunrise) and shining from the left. So all these boats are sidelit and I am on the shadow side.
    2) Most of what I am shooting is in strong shade, cool light. Ergo the bluish tones.
    3) Those, albeit small, areas where sunlight is falling (look closely at the boats) are already white as they should be.

I pondered the question last night while processing. I slept on it. And I decided to leave it.

    Besides I like blue! :D

    Does that logic make sense?

P.S. I will admit that when I punched up the blues in the sky and water (just a little), the bluish cast to the shady side of the boats also came along for the ride (just a tiny bit more).

Ed, It's your image/your vision. I understand that we don't all see things the same way and there is no wrong or right in art IMO. I love your creative side:).

    Nice image and application, Ed.

It's boats and that is always nice! ;)

Ed, I have to agree with Denise. I think the blue cast in the white bulkheads could be reduced slightly to purify the whites. But it is still a very nice image of a very nice subject.

Sometimes logic prevails... and sometimes it doesn't. I had to give it a try. I went in with the White Neutralizer filter in Nik Color Efex Pro. I used +Control Points on the hulls and -Control Points on the sky and water. Not as bad I thought it would be. I rather like it.

So thanks for the kick in the pants!

Let me ask you this. Does the first image, the bluer of the two look more like early morning than the second? To me the second just feels later in the morning than the first. I know. I'm crazy!! But then I am always walkin' that creativity/insanity fine line!

Ed, I love the first one the best. The blue tones definitely say 'first light' to me and it is truly evocative. It sets the image apart. The second one is nice but...
    Best,

I can go either way on this one. I think the white would be white, but agree maybe hard to make and keep the feel.

Your image ... your vision ... As they say! ;)

Ed, I guess I'll have to say that I like them both because I keep going back and forth and I can't decide. I do believe that the first has more of an early morning feel, but I like the bright white on the second. But, they are both of boats and I love boats and the water, so you can't go wrong in my book.
