OK going to try this again. This image of a great blue heron was taken at the Wakodahachee Wildlife preserve in Delray Beach, FL two days ago with a Canon 40D, Canon 300 f4 IS L + 1.4 extender. It was not modified except for slight a bit of cropping - processed lightly from the RAW file in Aperture 3 and Photoshop CS 4.

Reason: did not add photo!
Not a bad image considering what appears to be some tough lighting conditions. It appears the bird is virtually back-lit, yet you managed to get some detail in the front areas. Not particularly easy to do. The whites on the head appear to be a bit hot... doubt there's much detail in there to be found but might be worth trying "recovery" or "Shadow/Highlight" to see if you can bring it back. I like the pose and composition.
Hi Karl Lovely bird and one different image !! Imagine there was no flash and compensation was two over? Helpful if listed!!!
Would make a little space between the beak and bg color ! Tones looks good and has a great feel, about all I wish for is detail in the whites (head) .. agree with Bob on not being detail !! Like different and this is good, Big Congrats and a Big Warm Welcome !!! ... remember to give some feedback for others, will be much appreciated and will do yo a lot of good taking a really close look at other work !!!
... for these a little fill flash is just about necessary but all depends on you tech settings which I did not see !! Looking forward to the next one !!!
Hi Karl, welcome to the forum.Agree with Al regarding loss of detail in whites. The backround does bring alot of attention to itself due to the strong contrast between white and the multicolored bkrnd. This would probably work better as a high key or a filled backround...
Hi Karl - all covered above - a big warm welcome to BPN - do not hesitate to jump right in and leave comments on other peoples images - all we ask is that you say what you like or dont like about the image - no better way to learn and no faster way to improve your own images.
Looking forward to seeing more :)
