    Default Beautiful birds, but different!

Last weekend I was shooting the Antigua Classics Regatta in Antigua. Two of the most beautiful sailing yachts were competing in 18 knots wind and 8-10 foot waves, providing for spectacular images from the chase boat and helicopter. Velsheda (dark blue hull) is a fully restored America's Cup yacht from the 1930's, and Ranger (white hull) is a replica from the America's Cup yacht from the same era.

    Velsheda breaking waves.

Shooting boats is just as exciting as birds and comes with it's own challenges. Usually I work with the 300mm/f2.8 and 500mm/f4 handheld from the chase boat. All the camera gear is in a cooler to keep it dry and salt free. Doesn't always work, so a couple of towels comes in handy.

    Thanks for looking.

Yes, the aerials are made from the helicopter.

Incredible action shots Clemens!! These are some truly hearty souls to be out there in those seas! I have a friend who was racing in the Honolulu to Los Angeles race a couple of years ago and they hit a whale and sank! Kudos to you for being out there with them!
