I was recently on a flight from Orlando to NY when the pilot announced we were going to make an unplanned stop to have a mechanic check something. After about 15 minutes I thought we might be on one engine as it seemed quiet--As we got closer to the ground I could see a bunch of emergency vehicles which followed us to the terminal. Once we were inside the pilot let us know we had been on one engine die an oil leak. We had to wait a while for a replacement plane but eventually got to White Plains at about 4:30 am..I did not complain.
This was probably 3 hours after we landed. We did get a whole new crew and plane at about 2:30 am.--It had to fly from Orlando. JetBlue has no presence in Charleston but they had water, soda, and snacks of all sorts. The crew was just waiting around like we were--except they did not sleep on the floor. The pilot explained the details of what went on to anyone who wanted to hear. It was his first ever incident of one engine flying--he said he had practiced it before in the simulator which was way harder according to him.
I really wanted a beer but the bar was closed--and they couldn't take liquor off the airplane to sell on the ground.
