Black bear portrait from a couple springs ago. This was a former cub of the famous "Rosie" in Yellowstone. Not sure which generation of Rosie she was (has not been seen for over a year) as the name gets passed down to the offspring when the current Rosie dies. She liked to hang out near Tower Falls. Early morning light and was already starting to get harsh.

The light has brought out the blacks nicely Todd, and I like your choice of comp. The mouthful of grass adds a nice touch. ( I didnt realise they ate grass.)

Hi Todd and animal I am hoping to spend time with later this year so you have wetted my appetite :)

I do find the crop rather safe on this one Todd, however I'm not sure where you can take this crop wise. I did look at a tighter crop too. Also it does need more USM as it looks a tad soft, plus the fur needs a little lift. OK, I am away and looking at it on the laptop, but I thinks it's not too way off, but... ;) Had a quick play, but nothing great sadly. Be helpful to know if this has been cropped?

Thanks guys. Steve, yes this is cropped from horizontal (should have mentioned that in op). When and where are you heading for bears? I have a trip planned for Alaska in Aug for costal griz and blacks.

Hi Todd, think I leave 22/24 August to Vancouver then up to Anchorage and then fly on from there. On the way back will spend time on Vancouver island for more bears & Sea otters:):)

Like the grass in the mouth and the eyes. Maybe just a little more room on the bottom.

Very nice image. Like the grass in the mouth and the eye contact.

Nice job on the exposure and detail looks good. Nice to see some definition in the eyes.
