I see these birds often, but don't often get a clear shot. I know the angle is steep but with these guys I take them when i can Get them.

PPin PSE8, levels and sharpen. I darkened the tree trunk, cloned out some oof bg leaves right of the tree.
Cropped to vert, substantial crop but I felt I had the detail and saw very little noise. Reduced saturation of red in the crown. I held off on another round of sharpening because of the large crop.
Hi Peter, Taking into account your own critique on angle I feel you framed the image nicely. I like that the tree is on a slight diagonal as opposed to a straight vertical.Good detail in the subject....
I feel lucky just to see one or two of these guys in a year; you're fortunate to have them nearby. Nice capture and comp. Their crest is so spectacular that it seems to me you might have desaturated just a tad too much; and I might have left just a tiny bit more room on the left.
Hi Peter - shooting angle mentioned - Techs look solid - PP work looks good.
Dont think you could have done much better giiven the circumstances.
Keep em coming :)
Hi Peter Just the big crop !! Does reduce quality big time !!! Normally we don't want to see so much trunk and dead space on the other side but its a crop already !!! .. good tech settings !!!
