I took this picture recently of an over-flying Red-tailed hawk, which I thought was quite reasonable in terms of the bird - wing angle, detail etc., but the sky was a uniform dull gray and looked boring. So I adjusted it in PS Elements using the Render-Clouds filter, to make it more interesting-looking. I hope that's a legit. thing to do.
Hi Richard. The hawk looks, maybe a little selectice sharpening of the head area. The cloud rendering is good but maybe about 50% less. I would try a vertical crop on this leaving less space behind the bird.

Hi Richard, Nice wing position and the cloud rendering appearing natural. Agree about cropping some off the back and wished for a better light angle...
The clouds look good to me; I'll have to try that filter sometime. Agree that moving the bird somewhat further left in the frame would help -- maybe crop a bunch on the left and a bit top and bottom? Perhaps brightening the eye, and maybe the face, would help alleviate the marginal lighting conditions.
Hi Richard - all good advice above - A little work on the eye will improve it.
Do like the wing position, might have used a little more DOF as there was nothing in the BG to worry about - but would not have wanted to trade too much shutter speed - not sure if the D70S can be pushed much highere in terms of ISO??
Keep em coming :)
