The 500 was just too much and the opportunity too quick, so I cut the ears. I think it still works. What do you guys think?

great image , love the crop...

thought it could use S/H tool.. to open up the shaded areas a bit.. also another round of sharpening..

Hi Stephen, what a fantastic image, it has light, colour, depth, aggression and impact but the cropping of the ears sadly lets it down big time for me. That is the problem as you say with the 500, great lens, just too close :(

Personally I might combine the two, as both have slightly different qualities in certain areas, subtle perhaps, just my thoughts. Really glad you posted it.

A very charismatic and powerful pose, rarely captured. Cropping of ears is a shame. I wonder if there is an even tighter crop possible which wouldn't make it look like you had just had a bad day. What I mean by that is if you were to use this image either in a stock library or as a display it would need the crop to look like the missing ear tips were intentional.

I am also glad to see this image, plenty of zing here!

Love everything but the clipped ears. Do you have another frame with the ear tips intact? I know that kind of manipulation can get a little touchy with some but if disclosed I see no problem. It would be worth the effort IMHO. Re post helps with shadow areas. TFS

Hi Stephen, having seen these guys a lot in Sabi a while ago, I have never seen them in such an aggressive mood. What was upsetting him?

wonderful open mouth, light and detail Stephen - I agree that a closer crop will work better, maybe a pano of the mouth and eyes cropped at the base of the ears?

Hi Stephen High impact image !!! I like enhancements by Peter Perhaps if done on a layer can reduce opacity for just a little less effect !! Excellent PS work !!

Agree on the ears, sure wish they would be there, as is might even cut a little more so they would look cut rather than clipped !!! ... image does work and keeper in my book !!! btw lots to say for the 100-400 with a crop factor camera !!! 160-640 :)
