This is great Markus, love the pose on the upper one wish the lower bird was a bit more parallel to camera. you got away with ISO 200 and 1/400sec :) would crank up at least 400 or 800 here, motion blur on the wings is on the border of being too much. Overall a very nice well rounded shot. TFS

Excellent suggestions and critique by Arash. ISO 400 is my mainstay. I love it that the male is just about to land on her. Touchdown!

Were you able to track the male in flight while working off a beanbag or were you on the female when he flew in?
Thanks BTW for your kind comments on the 7D User's Guide.

BTW, I love this excellent image!

    Very nice shot Markus.
I really like the nice soft light and the way the nice colours have been protrayed.

Markus, I like the action captured and the head angles are nice. Good advice already given. Nicely done.

Markus, well timed for the moment, and I really like the soft light and warm colours.

Hi Artie, thanks for your comment. Those birds were standing next to each other for a while and the male was constantly calling and sometimes looking up (there are several raptor species around like Western Marsh Harriers or White-tailed Eagles). Suddenly he jumped on the female. I was hoping for something like that and he read my mind.

You and Arash are right about ISO 400. Would have been better. With good light like this, ISO 400 is no problem on the 7D.

Thanks for the details Markus. I hope to be in the Netherlands next spring to photograph this species!
