I realized today that I had not updated you on Norm's progress. The last I mentioned, Norm was on the lung transplant list. Well, fate stepped in and we had huge snowstorms during that time. No travel was possible to retrieve an organ and at the end of the week, Norm had begun to improve. So, they made him inactive on the list to see if he would improve enough to not need a transplant.
Well, he had a very rare illness and we were told rarely there are people that improve. Not completely, but improve. The best guess of the Dr. was that he would still need oxygen but at a low level.
Norm spent over 2 months in the hospital and about 6 weeks in rehab and is now home. And wonder of wonders -- he's now off all oxygen!!! We have prchased a golf cart in which he can ride around and inspect the property. It has room for a tripod for his camera and we hope soon he will be out catching birds in their nesting behaviors. I suspect you may have noticed he has been checking in on the forums lately.
There is a rule that for every week you are in bed on your back it takes 4 weeks to regain that strength. At that rate, it will be almost a year before we know how much recovery Norm will be able to achieve. But, he's already thinking of all those eagles at Conowingo that he may photograph this fall. Of course, I may play Sherpa for his equipment, but that's a small price to pay for having him back again.
Now, I want everyone to hug their wife, husband, significant other, children, etc. because you will never know what can happen out of the blue. Illnesses can come on in an instant and life can change forever.
Thanks for all who wished him well and offered prayers.
Linda
