Spent Easter weekend in Costa Rica and got to visit Finca Oro for a couple of days (where Jim Croswell took his perched HB pic's). The violet sabrewing was a species i had yet to photograph and the main target HB for my visit to the Finca.

Great capture. I'm always fascinated by the multi-flash setups for hummingbirds and you caught great colors on the bird and on the plant. Excellent detail as well.

Beautiful species beautifully done. Love the wing position and the detail in the purple. Great pose and sharp as can be. For more natural looking reds with detail, try adding 60-90 points of CYAN to the REDs in Selective Color as described in one of the REDucation threads in the Tutorials Forum.

Love the composition and the nice lighting of both bird and flower. Great pose by the Sabrewing. Do wish for a more natural looking color for the BG though. I had a couple of Sabrewing encounters during my Costa Rica workshop; always a lot of fun to photograph this beautiful species. Congrats on a fine image!

Thanks for the comments. The BKGD was an attempt at blue sky as opposed to the usual green BKGD's

YAW Peter. It works well. Best to use it before desaturating.

Beautiful image Peter. I like how he is closing the bloom.
