    Default WANTED!

    D90; 80-400 @ 370mm. ISO 400. f/7.1 @ 1/1000s. -1.0 EV. HH. Shot as horiz., cropped 30% off height.

As the ferry boat pulled into the Jamestown dock at sunset, I realized that we were gliding in right next to a pair of Ospreys nesting on a piling of the ferry slip, so I jumped out of the car and fired off a blast of shots. Looking at the EXIF, it seems that in my haste I forgot to switch on the VR. I posted the nesting pair on Avian last week. Here's a frontal head shot, taken just after the superstructure of the boat cast its shadow on the bird, so I had to do some lightening in PP. I also managed a profile head shot, but this is more fun. C&C appreciated.

Hey Bill, this is an awsome close up. I actually live about 3 miles from the Jamestown Ferry dock. This pair has been nesting there for at least 3 seasons that I can remember.

Hi Bill - like the in your face pose - Might have bumped the ISO a little and stopped down some more for some more DOF - nothing in the BG to worry about.
    Like the intense stare.

Thanks Peter. Finding them was a pleasant surprise at the end of an otherwise disappointing day of photography at Hog Island. Great to have good subjects so accessible to you.
