Default what would be the best crop

I took this picture last year Canon 50D,100mm 2,8,ISO 200,F11,1/200, flash, I really like the motive but how to crop it gives me gray hair!

    This is the original

I tried this letting the leaf be a natural frame

or this one but I dont think its sharp enough

Any good ideas, or maybe the picture isn't good enough?

Morten, just a reminder that there is a one image limit to each thread - we'll let this one slide but you need to post each image in a different thread on a different day from now on. I know...it takes longer to get an answer that way but we don't want to bog down the super server!

My answer to your crop issue is the last image. Sure, I wish all the forelegs were tack sharp but at this magnification it's not an easy thing to do. I would tone down the highlights from the flash - especially the white hot areas right at the base where his wing meets his body. I'd also clone out that water drop on the leaf below him along with that white spot because they aren't sharp enough to add to the image.

I do like the fact that you were thinking about framing the image with the leaves but with all those dew drops it really takes your eye away from the insect. In other cases, I think this would be an excellent idea so keep it in mind for the bug season!

    OK, I misunderstood, sorry.

    Thanks for the feedback

Morten, I also prefer the last image and I agree with Jules that the bg in the others distracts from the fly. You captured great detail and I like the pose and bubble. I'm curious as to why you would use a 100mm for a shot like this when you also have the MP E?:)

I sold the MP, didn’t have patience for it, I always work handheld and to be honest I thought I made fewer good shots with it compared to the 100mm. But if you master the MP, you can make fantastic shots.
