Default Get Away From My Nest

Stood in the water in the bay for over 2 hours, handholding the 200-400. It was worth it.

Note: This egret was screaming at another one as he/she was landing on top of the perch, chasing another one. I was 150 feet away from the rookery taking the pictures. There is no causing of distress of any sorts to the subject.

    Manual Metering
    Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/2000)
    Aperture: f/5.6
    Focal Length: 200 mm
    ISO Speed: 320
    Exposure Bias: 0 EV
    Flash: No Flash

Hi Troy - as long as the title is not a accurate reflection of what was happening - we certainly do not condone the practice of causing distress to your subjects in order to get the shot.

Lance, there was no practice of causing any distress. I am not sure if you have seen the rookery here. They are hundreds of egrets here flying in and out getting stick to build the nest. This one flying in was yelling at another egret. They attacked or chasing other egrets the entire time I was there.

I stood about 150 feet away in the water from the rookery. All I did was taking the pictures. I am not sure where you got the idea of I was the way causing distress to my subject.:confused::confused:

I've seen these birds act this way towards each other many, many times. Nesting or just roosting they like to uproot one another and fight over position. I have no problem accepting this as normal behavior and the thought that you created the situation never crossed my mind... though I can see where it might. Anyway, lets talk about the image. ;)

Nice capture of egret behavior. The whites are a little hot in places, especially up top. You might be able to tweak it a bit in post to bring out a bit more detail. Possibly by using the recovery slider in Bridge or Lightroom, or via Shadow/Highlight in Photoshop (and there's probably and least a half-dozen other methods as well). You show some great determination by standing in water for 2 hours to get the shots.

    Bob,
I should have been more descriptive when posting. It was a misunderstanding.
Thanks for the tips on recovering some details. I will try that later tonight. Thank you.

    Troy,
I like the wingspread, dangling legs, HA and BG color. I agree with Bob on some of the whites.

Hi Troy, agree with above comments. The majority of the image is well handled...

Hi Troy - Sorry - Glad it was not the case - I read the title and the description about standing in the water for two hours and the two seemed to tell a story. Sorry for any confusion - Glad you are not like some of the photographers you see out in the field - that give us all a bad name.

The changes to your description certainly make it much clearer. :)
