    like the tall portrait pose, not sure about pitch black BG, head needs a bit more sharpening. looking good TFS

    Thanks arash - the BG is natural. The early morning sun hit on his side and the BB was still dark. I liked the look.

    Personally, I like the black background. It makes the heron really stand out as the subject. There's certainly nothing to distract the viewer from the bird. It does look like the focus might've been on the shoulder, leaving the head a tad, just a tad mind you, soft. Color looks natural, good feather detail everywhere but perhaps in the whites on the head. I like the composition... using the birds body and neck to form a leading line from the corner to its head. Good job.

    I also don't mind the Bg as the Heron really stands out against it. Nice color and detail, might yone down the bill and whites on the head.

    Hi Jeff,Black backrounds generally make an image pop an no difference here. I feel you captured the exposure pretty well and see some detail in the whites where there isn't a whole lot to begin with.
