Beautiful sharpness as posted! Awesome BG, and nice perch...but I wish you had left more room below to clear the bottom cone. Had the sun been directly behind you the far leg would have been lit too, and the strong shadow running along the left edge and below the bird would not be there (or at least not as prominent). Still, good stuff!

Sharp as could be. And a great subject. Clipping the cones at the bottom is a mortal sin. After the fact, you could have photographed the bottom of the scene and them added to the bottom for a more SQ COMP.

The colors in this one look much better. Adding to the other comments, I wish the sun would have been behind you. Do you have more room at the bottom?

Thank you very much, Arthur! I know that clipping the cones is a mortal sin...Mea culpa! I am always struggling to fill the frame with the bird and I end up with cutting off some things from the perch...I guess that it would be better to make a larger framing of the scene and later to crop for the composition...
I also agree that the light was a bit harsh, but these green-finches don't really like to perch on thin branches close to the ground. They prefer to walk and feed directly on the ground.Even when they perch on these branches, they only stay for a few seconds.I have waited in the hide, about three hours to get a few good shots...and in that time the sun went up and the light became harsh.
Adding to the bottom of the scene, to repair the clipped cones, is a bit over my skills in PP...

Adrian, I notice you have a zoom...take advantage of it! When including a beautiful set-up perch you do not need to have the bird so big in the frame. Give it more breathing room with the complete perch showing. Take a look a master set-up expert Alan Murphy's images...many times the bird is pretty small in his frames to make sure there is enough room for the perches.

I have checked, and I do have some images where the cones are not clipped. The problem is that I don't know how to repair my photo using those images...Any help will be much appreciated!
