    Default White-Crowned Sparrow

One of the most common birds in my area during winter, and yet it has been one of the most difficult birds for me to get on a perch. They really just don't want to leave the ground. I finally had some success last weekend just before they started migrating. I believe this is either the pugetensis or gambelli subspecies, but I could be wrong.

I really hate using ISO 640 on the 50D, but the light was fading fast. Fill flash was used.

Really like the placement, diagonal perch, sharp face, and soft pastel background color that goes well with the green lichens. The way the lichens or perch merges with the left foot is slightly distracting. It would have been nice to have enough dof to cover the tail but know he would have been still enough for a slower speed. Very nice image.

Hi Aidan, I think this image is very pleasing. The simple composition and pose of the bird gives us a nice view of the bird. I like the perch as the lichens as interest. It appears nice and sharp where it critical and the exposure looks spot on. Overall very nice work. Thanks for sharing.

Hey Aiden, I like the detail, markings and colours on the little guy, and the lichen on the perch adds to the image. Good use of flash too.

Your perseverance paid off nicely Aidan.
I like the pose and a very nice perch as well.
They are a very pretty bird and hard to get a nice clear photo of.

Aidan, I like the sharp details and pose. The perch is nice w/ the lichens. Beautiful BG colors. I hated to use high ISO w/ my 40D. Nice use of fill flash:)

I am likin' the lichens. Is this an Alan Murphy set-up? The bird needed to angle its tail more towards you rather than away from you. :) I am finally running your short NANPA article in the next Bulletin. Do you have any good images of the geyser that you liked? If yes, send me an 800 wide one asap :)

Thanks everyone. Artie, I sent you the image.

P.S. Yes, this is a set-up. This perch was set up over sunflower seeds.
