Canon EOS40D SLR and a Canon EF300mmIS f2.8 lens. Handheld from a stationery vehicle. Shutter speed 1/1000sec. Aperture f5.6. ISO400. I underexposed by -.33 of a stop to protect the white feathers from blowing out. No flash. The image was taken on the 22 May 2008 at 17h45 in the afternoon. The bird was flying away to roost after feeding in a lagoon nearby. Location was Chitabe, Okavango Delta, Botswana.
This image was shot in RAW and processed in Adobe Camera Raw for colour, contrast and sharpness.

welcome here Grant! BPN can use some of your fine images.

lovely shot of an endangered bird...gorgeous light too

I would play around with composition if you have some space - you can also fabricate space as it's merely sky all around. I would place the bird in the lower right corner and give it space to fly into top and left. I also notice some sharpening halos around the primary feathers which can easily be avoided by selecting the bird, contracting selection by 1-2 pixels and then applying sharpening.

Hi Grant - fine image - like it a lot.
Id fix the clipped wing tip and add some extra sharpening to the wings as Morkel has - not sure about the crop though - for my tastes just a little more room top and LHS for him to fly into.
    Nice!!!

Very nice, Grant. Love the flight pose and lighting. Morkel's repost looks great. :) The reds look like they might be a little oversaturated? Not sure.

Hi Grant, Great light, good exposure and nice wing position. Morkel's crop helped but I would have the bird a bit higher and add some room to the right.

Thanks for taking the time to critique, and especially Morkel for actually doing a better version of that image.
    I will keep at it.
