This image is posted as it came out of the camera (no crop, NR, sharpening, etc.). And is posted only for instructional purposes. I'd like suggestions on where you would make the crop. And does it need NR?
G'day Wendell. It's a great little image that'll come up really well with some PP work done on it.
I reckon you could go a couple of ways with the crop. I'ld do a very standard horizontal crop, similar to what I did with my Pacific Golden Plover.
Or you could add some canvas under the bird and give the reflection a head and go for a nice vertical crop.
It definetly needs NR, as well lightening up and removal of those lens artifacts.
But the camera has already done some of its own processing for white balance, your -1EV and such so that is where we have to start from.
Anyway, cropping, yes. Maybe since the reflection cuts off the head you might want to crop bottom near feet in water. Other PP as suggested by Mark and you could also make the water more blue and less gray. In fact, the whole image seems a bit gray so try to clean it all up and see.

Reason: changed some confusing wording
Good looking image Wendell I like Dave's crop and PS work !! Could leave more room up front in you wish
btw when leaving a reflection (part of one) cut it just like you would the actual bird !!! For these that are so clean/clear you can shoot the reflection and forget the bird, usually need to add a bit of light !!! Excellent image !!
Thanks to all!! And, Dave, your re-post is appreciated. That is exactly what I wanted to know/see -- where on the image it would be best to crop it. I wondered, for instance, if it would be wise to clone out the muddy foot reflection or to leave it there, as you did. Guess I could have been more specific/direct with my question.
