    Default Hungry Mother....

    Attached Images Attached Images

This image was created on Jim Neiger's pontoon boat this morning with the tripod mounted Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens and the EOS-1D MIV. ISO 1000. Evaluative metering +1/3 stop off the reeds: 1/320 sec. at f/5.6. A band was removed from the bird's right leg.

Denise and I had too much fun with both perched and flight on West Lake Toho the past two mornings. Thanks a ton Jim!

Beautiful image, great action, lovely BG - even the streaks on left side don't detract anything from this. The clarity of this image at 1000 ISO is brilliant - I have to get one of those cameras but I suppose I can dream on

    Artie:

Nice light, image detail, trim perch, wing position and feeding action.

Very nice natural history image, tells about their life cycle.

She is rather brown. Do you think she is a first year juvenile?

    Cheers

Artie, This one looks familiar:). I like the pose w/the snail still in the shell, she does look hungry. Very nice job w/ the band removal.

    Randy,

This is an excellant example of the plumage of a fully adult female.

    Thanks Jim for the input.

I expected the color to be a bit more gray in the adult female, but will defer to your vast knowledge of these birds.

    Appreciate the correction.

wonderful shot Maestro...love the soft light, composition and pose. the techs at the high ISO look good for the 1Dm4 on this web-size, how do you find the noise levels on high ISO on the full-size out-of-camera files?

Lovely image as usual. She looks hungry indeed. Love the BG and raised wings.

On sunny days 45-point has worked well for me. Otherwise central sensor only.
