Shutter noise

I wonder if anyone has any great ideas as to reducing shutter noise. I am photographing ducks from a permanent blind. They pay no attention to the lens, but clearly hear the shutter when my D300 fires. Sometimes they leave sometime they do not, but they always indicate that they hear. Any ideas??

Glad to oblige. It's amazing and sometimes scary what crawls out from the deep recesses of the mind where no one ever goes. :D
